Penelitian ini mempelajari pengaruh orientasi arah serat terhadap kekuatan bending pada komposit serat pisang abaka dan komposit serat sabut kelapa dengan resin polyester yang dibuat dengan proses vakum bag. komposit serat pisang abaka dan komposit serat sabut kelapa dibuat dengan cetakan kaca berukuran 200 x 200 x 5 mm sebanyak 4 papan komposit dengan pengujian 3 spesimen tiap variasi orientasi arah serat. pengujian bending dilakukan menggunakan mesin uji bending difabrikasi berkapasitas 5 kn dengan spesimen merujuk pada american standard testing and material (astm) d-790. hasil pengujian bending didapatkan nilai rata-rata kekuatan bending tertinggi pada komposit serat pisang abaka orientasi searah sebesar 46,55 mpa dan nilai rata-rata kekuatan bending terendah didapatkan pada komposit serat sabut kelapa orientasi searah sebesar 32,26 mpa. nilai rata-rata kekuatan bending pada spesimen komposit serat pisang abaka orientasi arah searah (00 ), menyilang (450 ) dan komposit serat sabut kelapa orientasi arah searah (00 ), menyilang(450 ) masing-masing memiliki nilai kekuatan bending 46,55; 39,94; 32,26 dan 34,55 mpa.



Abstract

This study studied the effect of fiber orientation on the bending strength of abaca banana fiber composites and coconut fiber composites with polyester resin made by the vacuum bag process. The abaca banana fiber composite and the coconut coir fiber composite were made with a glass mold measuring 200 x 200 x 5 mm with as many as 4 composite boards with 3 specimens tested for each variation in the orientation of the fibers. The bending test was carried out using a fabricated bending test machine with a capacity of 5 KN with specimens referring to the American Standard Testing and Materials (ASTM) D-790. The results of the bending test showed that the highest average bending strength was 46.55 MPa for the banana fiber composite abaca and the lowest average bending strength was 32.26 MPa for the coco fiber composite. The average value of the bending strength of the banana fiber composite specimens with orientation in the direction of direction (00 ), cross (450 ), and composites of coco fiber with the orientation of unidirectional (00 ), cross (450) each has a bending strength value of 46.55; 39.94; 32.26 and 34.55 MPa.
