Standard precautions is designed for curing all of patients in hospitals without considering diagnosa, infection status and the beginning step for nosocomial infections prevention. this research has the goal to know the applying of standard precautions by nurses include the applying of hand-washing, using gloves, masks and protector clothing. linen handling, patients curing equipment handling, environmental cleaning, and handling sharp instruments handling. the design of this research is descriptive with sampling technique the total of samples is 38 persons. data collecting is done by using observation paper with check-list method include in it 8 sub variable which is 41 observation items. data analysis is done manually. good category is indicated by all the items are done perfectly. jess category if there is an item is not done. the result of research shows that the applying of standard precautions of band washing lays in less category (94.7%), using of gloves in less category (94,7%), using of masks in good category (92,1%), using of protector clothing in good category (76,3%). handling linen in good category (89,5%), patients curing equipment handling in good category (60,5%), environment cleaning in good category (89.5%), and sharp instruments handling in good category (86,8%). according to the result of research we can conclude that the applying standard precautions by nurses in jeumpa inpatient unit of dr. zainoel abidin banda aceh general hospital stays in less category (94,7%). we hope to the hospital can give more attention to the applying of standard precautions in giving the service for society by doing more trainings to nurses and also providing good infrastructure to increase health quality service. keywords : standard precautions principle, nurse
