ZAHRATUSSAFARAH, HUBUNGAN BEBAN KERJA MENTAL DENGAN PERILAKU CARING PERAWAT TERHADAP PASIEN COVID-19 DI RSUD MEURAXA BANDA ACEH. Banda Aceh Fakultas Keperawatan,2022

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic had a huge impact on health workers who are on the front line in handling the COVID-19. During the pandemic, working conditions worsened and caused high psychological stress, thus affecting the mental workload of health workers. Moreover, this workload issue affects the caring behavior of nurses towards patients. This study examined the correlation between mental workload and nurses‟ caring behaviors toward COVID-19 patients. This study is a correlational study with a retrospective design using a cross-sectional approach. The population members of this study were nurses who had been assigned to handle the COVID-19 patients at Meuraxa Regional General Hospital of Banda Aceh. 70 respondents have been chosen by using the total sampling technique. The data were collected through NASA-TLX questionnaires (National Aeronautics and Space Administration Task Load Index) and CBI-24 (Caring Behavior Inventory). The data were analyzed using Spearman‟s rank correlation. The result of the bivariate analysis test showed that there was a correlation between mental workload and caring behavior of nurses towards COVID-19 patients (p-value 0.000 α=0,05). Therefore, further action is needed on efforts to improve caring behavior and competence by hospital institutions through training and adjustments to the working hours of health workers which are later expected to have a positive effect on the service and quality of institutions in dealing with pandemic issues.
