Dunia pendidikan menuntut peserta didik agar mampu memiliki kemampuan higher order thinking skill (hots). mahasiswa sebagai calon guru diharapkan memiliki kemampuan hots agar nantinya mampu membantu dan meningkatkan kemampuan hots yang dimiliki peserta didik. penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kemampuan dan level kemampuan mahasiswa dalam menyelesaikan masalah higher order thinking skill pada mata kuliah geometri bidang di program studi s1 pendidikan matematika. penelitian ini merupakan penelitian mixed methode dengan jenis penelitian sequential explanatory. subjek pada penelitian ini yaitu 26 mahasiswa s1 pendidikan matematika universitas syiah kuala angkatan 2020. instrumen penelitian terdiri dari soal tes sebanyak 4 soal yang mewakili setiap level pada hots dan pedoman wawancara. teknik analisis data pada penelitian ini yaitu untuk hasil tes dengan mencari rata-rata, menghitung persentase dan menentukan kategori kemampuan hots, sedangkan untuk hasil wawancara dengan reduksi data, menyajikan data dan mengambil kesimpulan. berdasarkan hasil penelitian diperoleh bahwa kemampuan mahasiswa dalam menyelesaikan masalah higher order thinking skill pada mata kuliah geometri bidang di program studi s1 pendidikan matematika secara keseluruhan berada pada kategori baik. hal ini terlihat dari nilai rata-rata yang diperoleh yaitu 71,7. sedangkan level kemampuan mahasiswa dalam menyelesaikan masalah higher order thinking skill pada mata kuliah geometri bidang di program studi s1 pendidikan matematika secara keseluruhan berada pada level sedang atau level c5 (evaluasi). kata kunci: higher order thinking skill, geometri bidang.

The world of education requires students to be able to have Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). Students as prospective teachers are expected to have HOTS abilities so that later they are able to help and improve the HOTS abilities of students. This study aims to determine the ability and level of student ability in solving Higher Order Thinking Skill problems in the Field Geometry course in the Mathematics Education Undergraduate Study Program. This research is a mixed method research with a sequential explanatory type of research. The subjects in this study were 26 undergraduate students of Mathematics Education at Syiah Kuala University batch 2020. The research instrument consisted of 4 test questions representing each level on the HOTS and interview guidelines. The data analysis technique in this study is for test results by finding the average, calculating the percentage and determining the HOTS ability category, while for the results of interviews with data reduction, presenting data and drawing conclusions. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the ability of students to solve Higher Order Thinking Skill problems in the Field Geometry course in the Mathematics Education Undergraduate Study Program was in the good category as a whole. This can be seen from the average value obtained, which is 71.7. Meanwhile, the level of student ability in solving Higher Order Thinking Skill problems in the Field Geometry course in the Mathematics Education S1 Study Program is overall at the moderate level or level C5 (evaluation).
