MUHAMMAD HANIF, UJI AKTIVITAS ANTIBAKTERI ESKTRAK N-HEKSANA, ETIL ASETAT, DAN ETANOL DAUN SIRIH MERAH (PIPER CROCATUM) TERHADAP BAKTERI ESCHERICHIA COLI SECARA IN VITRO. Banda Aceh Fakultas Kedokteran Hewan,2022

Abstract

Red betel plant (Piper crocatum) is a plant that has benefits in the treatment of various diseases. This study aimed to determine the antibacterial activity of red betel leaf extracted using n- hexane, ethyl acetate, and 96% ethanol as solvents against the growth of Eschrichia coli in vitro. This study used n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and 96% ethanol as solvents and 5 concentrations of red betel extract, namely 0%, 10%, 20%, 40%, and 60%. Chloramphenicol disc was used as a positive control. Antibacterial activity test was carried out using Kirby-Bauer method. The data were analyzed descriptively and presented in tabular form. The results showed that no inhibition zone was formed around the discs containing n-hexane and 96% ethanol extract, while the ethyl acetate extract at concentrations of 10%, 20%, 40%, and 60% showed inhibition zone with average diameter were 8,97 ± 0,40; 11,61 ± 0,47; 13,4 ± 0,98; 17,56 ± 0,62, respectively. Ethyl acetate extract had antibacterial activity that was able to inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli, while n- hexane and 96% ethanol extracts were unable to inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli in vitro.
