Abstract

ABSTRACT In 2021, the prevalence of COVID-19 was increasing globally, including in Indonesia. This condition had forced the Indonesian government to impose a vaccination program as one of the policies to control COVID-19. Motivation is the primary impetus for the community to have vaccinations against COVID-19. Some factors that influence motivation are severity, vulnerability, intrinsic reward, extrinsic reward, response efficacy, self-efficacy, and response cost. The purpose of this study is to identify the factors that influence people’s motivation to have vaccinations against COVID-19. This study is a descriptive exploratory research. The population in this research was 2,427 people who have been vaccinated with doses 1 and 2 in the Syiah Kuala Subdistrict, Banda Aceh. The sampling method used was purposive sampling with 343 respondents. The data were collected using a motivational questionnaire with a reliability value of 0.946. The results show that the factors that influenced people’s motivation to have vaccination were in the high category, including response cost (97.1%), self-efficacy (71.7%), intrinsic reward (69.7%), severity (66.8%), extrinsic reward (66.5%), vulnerability (65.5%) and response efficacy (64.4%). A high level of motivation to get vaccinated may result from the government policies on free vaccination, sufficient information regarding the benefits of vaccination, and the requirement for proof of COVID-19 vaccination for administration services (education, work, and travel).
