Comprehension Test (A Qualitative Study at Second Grade Students of SMAN 1 Unggul Darul Imarah)

This study aims at investigating the data about the difficulty level of reading comprehension test made by the teacher that causes the students’ failure in reading test in the form of qualitative study. The study was carried out at SMAN 1 Unggul Darul Imarah in the first semester in the year of 2016/2017. The objective of this research is to find out the level of text difficulty and the level of items made by the teacher in reading comprehension test. The data were collected through documentation. Based on the data analysis by using the text evaluator tool, the writer found that only one of five textswas in difficult category, but other texts were in the easy and standard category. Then the result of item analysis by using item difficulty formula found that test 1 had only 25% of 8 items placed in the rank of difficult level while 75% items placed in the rank of easy category. Meanwhile, in test 2, there were 50% of 10 items in difficult category, 30% of the items placed in the rank of easy categories and 20% in standard categories. So, it can be concluded that there were still found items or texts that did not fulfill good test category (standard category).
