Advisor: (1) Prof. Dr. Usman Kasim, M.Ed. (2) Dr. Yunisrina Q. Yusuf, S.Pd., M.Ling. Key Words: English Language Teaching, Philippine Teachers, Case Study.
This study was conducted to investigate how English language teaching activities are conducted at SD Bunga Matahari International School Banda Aceh by Philippine teachers. This study was conducted to answer four basic research questions – i.e. how are the syllabus and lesson plan design?; how are the teaching and learning process?; how is the evaluation system?; and what are the problems faced by Philippine teachers, The subjects of this study were two Philippine teachers at Bunga Matahari International School Banda Aceh. This study is qualitative, in which all data were described in a systematic way based on the formulated research questions, observation sheet, interview guide, field notes and recording as the instruments to collect the data. The data were analysed through the process of data classification, data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings showed that the Philippine teachers made a good preparation before teaching such as in designing syllabus, lesson plan, preparing and providing teaching material, and the teaching activities presented in the classroom based on what were stated in the lesson plan. The activities were procedural and meet the students’ level. The teachers also encountered several problems in conducting the teaching process, such as noisy class, students’ discipline and the influence of students’ mother tongue. However, the Philippine teachers were capable to solve the problems by rearranging the seating of students, giving more advice, encouraging the students and directly correcting incorrect pronunciation of the students in the classroom, so the teaching and learning could go well.
