Kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa di Indonesia masih dalam kategori rendah. Dari hasil PISA matematika 2022 dengan skor 379 tingkat capaiannya masih di bawah rata-rata dengan rata-rata keseluruhan yaitu 490, hanya 18% siswa yang memperoleh kemahiran matematika minimal level 2. Hasil rata-rata pada tahun 2022 menunjukkan penurunan mencapai 12-13 poin dibandingkan dengan tahun 2018. Hasil PISA tidak hanya mencerminkan tingkat pemahaman siswa terhadap materi, tetapi juga kemampuan pemecahan masalah, mengidentifikasi informasi, merencanakan penyelesaian dan memecahkan masalah dalam berbagai konteks kehidupan. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan suatu pembelajaran yang dapat meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa yang menggunakan konteks nyata dalam kehidupan, salah satunya adalah dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran problem based learning (PBL) dengan konteks Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa melalui model pembelajaran PBL konteks ESD. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif dengan desain yang digunakan yaitu pre-experimental dengan jenis one grup pretest-posttest. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VII MTs Negeri 2 Langkat dan sampel penelitian merupakan siswa kelas VII-1 yang terdiri dari 32 siswa. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa 3 butir soal. Uji hipotesis dilakukan dengan uji T berpasangan. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian diperoleh bahwa pembelajaran dengan model PBL konteks ESD dapat meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa kelas VII-1 MTs Negeri 2 Langkat.

According to the results of the 2022 PISA mathematics test with a score of 379, the achievement level is still below average, with the overall average being 490. Only 18% of students achieved at least level 2 mathematical proficiency. The average results in 2022 show a decline of 12-13 points compared to 2018. The PISA results not only reflect students' understanding of the material but also their problem-solving skills, ability to identify information, plan solutions, and solve problems in various life contexts. Therefore, a learning approach that can enhance students' mathematical problem-solving skills using real-life contexts is needed, one of which is the problem-based learning (PBL) model with the context of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). This study aims to determine the improvement of students' mathematical problem-solving skills through the PBL model in the context of ESD. This research is quantitative with a pre-experimental design, specifically a one-group pretest-posttest type. The population in this study consists of all seventh-grade students of MTs Negeri 2 Langkat, and the research sample consists of class VII-1 students, totaling 32 students. The instrument used was a set of 3 questions. Hypothesis testing was carried out using a paired T-test. Based on the research results, it was found that learning with the PBL model in the context of ESD can improve the mathematical problem-solving skills of class VII-1 students at MTs Negeri 2 Langkat. .
