Self-management merupakan salah satu aspek yang memegang peranan penting dalam penatalaksanaan diabetes melitus tipe 2 (DMT2). Namun dalam pelaksanaannya pasien dengan diabetes melitus tidak melakukan self-management dengan baik yang mengakibatkan terjadinya komplikasi makrovaskular dan mikrovaskular. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektifitas edukasi self-management terhadap perawatan diri pada pasien DMT2 di Puskesmas Aceh Timur. Jenis penelitian ini adalah quasi experimental dengan one group pretest-postest design. Sampel penelitian adalah pendrita DMT2 yang dipilih dengan cara screening test berjumlah 51 responden. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan dengan teknik purposive sampling. Alat pengumpulan data menggunakan kuesioner the Summary Diabetes Self-Care Activities (SDSCA) yang dianalisa menggunakan uji statistik deskriptif dan Wilcoxon. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada perbedaan self-management aktifitas perawatan diri pada komponen pengaturan pola makan (p=0,000), latihan fisik (p=0,000), konsumsi obat (p=0,000), monitoring gula darah (p=0,000) dan perawatan kaki (0,000) pasien DMT2 di Puskesmas Aceh Timur sebelum dan sesudah diberikan intervensi. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa adanya peningkatan pengetahuan perawatan diri sebelum dan sesudah diberikan edukasi self-management pada pasien DMT2. Oleh karena itu perawat Puskesmas harus memberikan edukasi self-management setiap kali pasien melakukan kunjungan dan harus mempersiapkan pasien untuk discharge planning pada saat hari pertama rawatan pasien DMT2.

Self-management education is an aspect that plays an important role in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). However, in practice, patients usually have no idea about self-care practices in diabetes management. This issue might result in macrovascular and microvascular complications. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of self-management education on self-care in T2DM patients at the Community Health Center of Aceh Timur Regency. This quasi-experimental study was conducted by using the one group pretest-posttest design. The samples who were T2DM patients were chosen by means of a screening test, totaling 51 respondents through a purposive sampling technique. The data collection tool used was the Summary Diabetes Self-Care Activities (SDSCA) questionnaire. Data analysis methods employed were in the form of descriptive statistical tests and Wilcoxon test. The results showed that there were differences in self-management of self-care activities including dietary adjustments (p=0.000), physical exercises (p=0.000), drug consumption (p=0.000), blood sugar monitoring (p=0.000), and foot care (0.000) in T2DM patients at the Community Health Center of Aceh Timur before and after being given the intervention. It was also indicated that there was an increase in self-care knowledge before and after the patients being given self-management education. Therefore, the community health center nurses must provide regular self-management education during the patient visits and must prepare the T2DM patients for the discharge planning on the first day of their treatment.
