Penelitian ini mendeskripsikan makna dan fungsi Syair Rateb Doda Idi dalam masyarakat Alue Bilie, Kecamatan Darul Makmur, Kabupaten Nagan Raya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskripsi kualitatif. Data dalam penelitian ini terdiri berupa hasil observasi, wawancara terbuka dengan narasumber yang masih melestarikan Syair Rateb Doda Idi, dokumentasi kegiatan yang berkaitan dengan pelaksanaan syair tersebut, berbagai literatur, buku, jurnal ilmiah, artikel, dan dokumen kebudayaan yang relevan dengan tradisi keagamaan dan kesenian rakyat Aceh. Sumber data utama penelitian ini adalah masyarakat Gampong Alue Bilie, khususnya kelompok masyarakat yang masih melestarikan, memahami, dan mempraktikkan Syair Rateb Doda Idi dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa makna Syair Rateb Doda Idi dalam masyarakat Alue Bilie mencerminkan pesan religius dan moral yang kuat. Lirik-liriknya menekankan pentingnya kalimat tauhid sebagai bekal mati, doa dan harapan orang tua agar anak berakhlak mulia. Syair Doda Idi juga mengandung pengakuan dosa dan ajakan untuk senantiasa mengingat akhirat. Adapun fungsi Syair Rateb Doda Idi bagi masyarakat tidak hanya sebagai tradisi lisan, tetapi juga sebagai media pendidikan spiritual, moral, dan sosial. Syair ini berfungsi menyampaikan nasihat dan nilai kesopanan, mengingatkan manusia agar hidup sederhana, menjadi sarana dakwah kultural yang memperkuat identitas religius, dan menjaga warisan budaya masyarakat Alue Bilie.

This study aims to describe the meaning and function of Syair Rateb Doda Idi within the Alue Bilie community, Darul Makmur District, Nagan Raya Regency. The study employs a qualitative descriptive method. The research data consist of primary data obtained from observations, open interviews with informants who continue to preserve Syair Rateb Doda Idi, and documentation of activities related to the performance of the syair, as well as secondary data derived from relevant literature, books, scientific journals, articles, and cultural documents related to Acehnese religious and folk art traditions. The main data sources are the residents of Gampong Alue Bilie, particularly those who still preserve, understand, and practice Syair Rateb Doda Idi in daily life. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation to obtain a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of this tradition. The results indicate that the meaning of Syair Rateb Doda Idi in the Alue Bilie community reflects strong religious and moral messages. The lyrics emphasize the importance of the tauhid declaration as preparation for death, parental prayers and hopes for children to have virtuous character, and awareness of life’s impermanence. The syair also contains confessions of sin and encourages constant mindfulness of the afterlife, summarizing three main aspects: steadfastness of faith, awareness of the transience of life, and motivation for self-improvement. The function of Syair Rateb Doda Idi for the community extends beyond a mere oral tradition, serving as a medium for spiritual, moral, and social education. The syair conveys advice and ethical values, reminds individuals to live simply, and acts as a cultural da’wah tool that strengthens religious identity and preserves the cultural heritage of the Alue Bilie community.
