Abstrak
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan keefektifan kalimat dalam karangan
mahasiswa PBI FKIP USK. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan
metode deskriptif. Data penelitian ini berupa kalimat yang ditemukan di dalam
karangan mahasiswa PBI FKIP USK semester VI tahun ajaran 2022/2023.
Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan teknik dokumentasi dan teknik
observasi. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara mengumpulkan 32
karangan, kemudian dipilih 10 karangan untuk diklasifikasikan dan dianalisis
berdasarkan aspek kesalahan yang terjadi. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, diketahui
bahwa (1) Aspek kelengkapan unsur berdasarkan ciri subjek didahului oleh preposisi,
kata penghubung intra kalimat tidak dipakai pada kalimat tunggal, dan penghilangan
konjungsi pada anak kalimat lebih banyak ditemukan kesalahannya; (2) Aspek
kesejajaran ditemukan lebih sedikit kesalahannya; (3) Aspek kehematan berdasarkan
ciri pengulangan subjek, pemakaian superordinate pada hiponimi kata, bentuk
sinonim, dan bentuk jamak ganda menjadi aspek paling banyak ditemukan
kesalahannya setelah aspek kelengkapan unsur; (4) Aspek kelogisan berdasarkan ciri
penggunaan kata tanya dalam kalimat pernyataan dan kalimat multitafsir lebih sedikit
ditemukan kesalahannya. Simpulan penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa dalam
karangan mahasiswa program studi PBI FKIP USK masih banyak terdapat kalimat
tidak efektif dan menulis kalimat efektif itu tidak mudah seperti berbicara Bahasa
Indonesia.

ABSTRACT This research aims to describe the effectiveness of sentences in PBI FKIP USK students' essays. This research uses a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. The data for this research are sentences found in the essays of PBI FKIP USK students in the sixth semester of the 2022/2023 academic year. Data collection was carried out using documentation techniques and observation techniques. The data collection technique was carried out by collecting 32 essays, then selecting 10 essays to be classified and analyzed based on aspects of the errors that occurred. Based on the research results, it is known that (1) The aspect of completeness of elements based on the characteristics of the subject is preceded by a preposition, intra-sentence conjunctions are not used in single sentences, and errors in the omission of conjunctions in subordinate sentences are more common; (2) The alignment aspect was found to have fewer errors; (3) The aspect of economy based on the characteristic of subject repetition, the use of superordinates in hyponymy of words, synonymous forms, and double plural forms is the aspect with the most errors found after the aspect of completeness of elements; (4) The logical aspect based on the characteristics of the use of question words in statement sentences and multi-interpretation sentences contains fewer errors. The conclusion of this research shows that in the essays of students from the PBI FKIP USK study program there are still many ineffective sentences and writing effective sentences is not as easy as speaking Indonesian.
