Abstrak nama : syamsu rizal nomor siswa : 1606102020020 jurusan/program : pendidikan bahasa inggris/s1 judul : “analisis pelanggaran maksim di film joker 2019” kata kunci: maksim, film, makna. penelitian ini menganalisis pelanggaran maksim yang dilakukan oleh karakter dalam film “joker” 2019 dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. penelitian ini menerapkan teori grice (1975, sebagaimana dikutip dalam cutting, 2002) tentang prinsip kerja sama untuk menjawab pertanyaan penelitian ini, yaitu apa saja jenis-jenis maksim yang dilanggar dalam film “joker” 2019? peneliti selanjutnya menggunakan teori christoffersen (2005) untuk menjawab pertanyaan penelitian kedua, yang menanyakan tentang tujuan pelanggaran. temuan penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa semua jenis maksim yang dilanggar ditemukan dalam film “joker” 2019. maksim pelanggaran yang paling banyak digunakan dalam film adalah maksim pelanggaran kuantitas: (16 kemunculan), maksim relevansi: (12 kemunculan), maksim kualitas: (9 kemunculan), dan maksim cara paling sedikit: ( 3 kejadian). selain itu, alasan di balik tuturan adalah untuk menyembunyikan kebenaran: (11 kemunculan), menyelamatkan muka: (10 kemunculan), meyakinkan pendengar: (9 kemunculan), menghindari menyakiti lawan bicara: (5 kemunculan), memuaskan pendengar: (3 kemunculan), menghibur pendengar: (1 kemunculan), dan membangun kepercayaan: (1 kemunculan). alasan untuk merasa cemburu tentang sesuatu tidak terjadi dalam film. signifikan bagi peneliti, penelitian ini akan menambah dan memperluas pengetahuan dalam kajian linguistik.

Abstract Name : Syamsu Rizal Student No : 1606102020020 Department/Program : English Education/Undergraduate Title : “An Analysis of Violated Maxims in Joker 2019 Movie” Keywords: Maxims, Movie, Meaning. This research analyzed violated maxims performed by characters in the 2019 “Joker” movie by employing a qualitative approach. This research applied Grice’s theory (1975, as cited in Cutting, 2002) about cooperative principle to answer the question of this research, that is what are the types of the maxim violated in the 2019 “Joker” movie? The researcher further used Christoffersen's (2005) theory to answer the second research question, which inquired about the objective of the violations. The findings of this research showed that all types of violated maxims are found in the 2019 “Joker” movie. The most violated maxim used in the movie is the maxim violation of quantity: (16 occurrences), the maxim of relevance: (12 occurrences), the maxim of quality: (9 occurrences), and the maxim of manner as the least: (3 occurrences). In addition, the reasons behind the utterances are to hide the truth: (11 occurrences), save face: (10 occurrences), convincing the hearer: (9 occurrences), avoid hurting the hearer: (5 occurrences), satisfying the hearer: (3 occurrences), cheer up the hearer: (1 occurrence), and building one’s belief: (1 occurrence). The reason for feeling jealous about something did not occur in the movie. Significantly for the researcher, this research will add and expand knowledge in the study of linguistics.
