Abstract

Macro marine debris is an important indicator of anthropogenic pressure in coastal areas and has the potential to cause ecological impacts on marine ecosystems and biota. This study aimed to identify the types of macro marine debris and analyze their distribution patterns and abundance levels at each observation station along the coast of Muara Tiga District, Pidie Regency. Data were collected through field surveys using the shoreline survey method at three observation stations with different levels of human activity, following the NOAA/OSPAR protocols. The results showed a total of 142 types of macro debris, dominated by plastics (95 items), followed by glass and ceramics, plastic foam, rubber, textiles, metal, wood, and other materials. The highest debris density was recorded at station 3 (2.80 items/m²), while the lowest was found at station 1 (0.48 items/m²). The total weight of debris reached 194.48 g, with glass and ceramics contributing the highest weight (83.37 g), whereas plastics, despite being dominant in number, contributed a lower total weight. The highest weight-based abundance was observed at station 3, with a value of 4.321 g/m². Keywords: macro marine debris, abundance, Muara Tiga coast, shoreline survey
