NURI UMAIZA, EFEK EKSTRAK ETANOL DAUN JAMBU BIJI MERAH (PSIDIUM GUAJAVA L.) TERHADAP HISTOPATOLOGI GINJAL TIKUS (RATTUS NORVEGICUS). Banda Aceh Fakultas MIPA (S1),2022

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aimed to determine the effect of ethanol extract of red guava leaves (Psidium guajava L.) on the histopathology of rat kidney (Rattus norvegicus). Red guava leaves were extracted by maceration method. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 4 treatments and 6 replications. The treatment consisted of giving ethanol extract of red guava leaves at a dose of 0 mg/kg BW (P0), 40 mg/kg BW (P1), 80 mg/kg BW (P2) and 120 mg/kg BW (P3) for 30 days. Surgery and removal of the rat kidney was performed on the 31st day. Preparation of renal histology using paraffin method and Hematoxylin & Eosin (HE) staining. Parameters measured were the average proportion of renal tubular cells that experienced degeneration and necrosis, the area of Bowman's capsule cavity, and the presence of hyperemia, hemorrhage and inflammation. Data were analyzed using ANOVA test with a significant level of 5% and continued with Duncan's multiple test. The treatment affects the occurrence of hyperemia and the number of renal tubular cells that undergo degeneration and necrosis. However, there was no effect of treatment on the area of Bowman's capsule cavity, as well as the occurrence of hemorrhage and inflammation. Doses of 40 mg/kg BW is considered safe doses for consumption. Key words: Degeneration, Necrosis, Hemorrhage, Hyperemia, inflammation, Psidium guajava L.
